Under state law,
Brevard County is responsible for ordering
evacuations and ending evacuation periods. The City of
Melbourne assists with evacuation activities. The Brevard County Emergency Management Office manages shelters, assists those with special needs, and offers preparedness information. Information Updates are available from Brevard County.
News outlets as
well as the NOAA weather radio channel should be monitored for
current news. State bulletins will be on public radio
stations.
Citizens can also seek Brevard County information by calling 211.
If conditions
warrant, the City activates an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at
a police facility on Babcock Street. City operations are managed
from the EOC until the hurricane threat no longer exists, or until
recovery is completed.
When City Hall and other offices must be closed due to a storm
threat or impact, a recorded message with advisory information will
be available at (321) 608-6352 (608-MELB). Advisories will also be
available at
www.melbourneflorida.org.
