MPD Communications Center

The City of Melbourne Police and Fire Communications Division is responsible for answering all 911 emergency and non-emergency (259-1211) phone calls directed to the Police Department. Communications Officers also interact with police and fire response units.  The communications center has 30 budgeted employees including, a systems analyst, an administrative supervisor, 4 shift supervisors, and 24 persons who serve as skilled police dispatchers, teletype operators, fire dispatchers and call takers. The Communications Center is staffed 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

For the year 2007, the Melbourne Police Department handled over 230,000 phone calls. The Communications Center staff members are responsible for handling 911 calls placed within the city limits of  Melbourne, and for calls on administration lines into the Melbourne Police Department. The Center dispatched 91,000 police calls and over 13,000 fire and rescue calls. The Melbourne Communications Center also works closely with other local agencies. The Center has the ability to communicate with any other local, state, or federal agency involved in emergency incidents.
