Citizen's Police Academy

The Citizen’s Police Academy is coordinated by the Crime Prevention Unit of the Melbourne Police Department in the spring of each year.  Our goal is to educate the public on the various aspects of police work within the City of Melbourne.

We cover our recruiting program, our Sexual Offender Tracking Unit, our Records Division, how we book prisoners, our specialty teams, school resource officers, our communications center, and our Domestic Violence Unit, as well as many other aspects of our agency.  Each week, participants have the opportunity to listen to officers and civilians from various divisions relate their duties and the training and experience required for that particular area.
